A state law signed in March allows public colleges to keep secret the names of candidates who applied for the job. The process from which Sasse emerged was more secretive than past presidential searches at the university. “It’s very shocking that, of 700 people, there weren’t two qualified candidates that we could have brought to the university so that we could at least have choice,” Kroger said.
